Has anyone ever told you to stand up or sit up straight?
Many times when I speak and do workshops for civic groups, corporations and community events I often get to speak directly to people and answers their questions. Just recently I spoke to a large group and a person asked about her husband’s posture, why was it so hard for him to stand up or sit up straight?.
He leaned forward and it was quite obvious that it was not by choice.
Let’s start with the fact that there IS such thing as a Normal Spine. Just like there is a normal blood pressure range, a normal cholesterol range and many other normal standards. No one is perfect but obvious issues in the spine are not normal. Many people I speak with, think this type of posture is completely normal and ok. But maybe that’s not the whole story.
Since our office Focuses on Optimal Function, we check for Subluxations to see if they are related to your Complaints. What does that mean?
It easy to understand…. think of a pot hole. It gets patched up and guess what happens a few weeks or months down the road? Yes, the pothole reappears and is usually worse. If you like the “patch” type work – then this may not be for you.
Still curious? If you get the road repaved this is another option. However, do they just repave over the bad road? No, they first clear the bad road and then prepare the new road to be paved. So, back to checking for Forward Head Posture.
Looking from the front, it should be straight and from the side your spine has certain curves and appropriate structure to it. High shoulders, tilted heads become noticeable. From the side is the easiest and most common issue to see. Looking at the person from the side, if a person’s head leans forward, we see that the middle of the ear is in front of the side of the shoulder by one inch or more. This is called Forward Head Posture and is a positive indicator of a Subluxation (misalignment) in the spine.
There are many Complaints associated with Subluxations.
Neck and low back pain
headaches, including Migraines
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Disc Herniations
Muscle Spasms
Dizziness
Shoulder issues including Frozen Shoulder
Nerve Impingement
Numbness and Tingling
Digestive Disorders
Breathing Issues
This is a small list, if you are curious about an issue you are having please ask.
Of course there are similar issues in the lower spine but Forward Head Posture is so prevalent and simple for you to detect even at home.
Removing the Subluxation is not the same as treating the condition or symptoms. Our goal is to get back to having a Healthy Nervous System. Please refer to my post You’re New Today.
This will help you understand more.
So, do you or someone you know have Forward Head Posture? If so, please contact us to see if we can help.
